Cornelder de Moçambique (CDN), the company managing the Port of Beira, has launched a private LTE network to strengthen connectivity and improve services for port users.

In a LinkedIn announcement, CDN explained that the rollout is part of its broader plan to modernize infrastructure and reduce dependence on public telecom networks.

Built in collaboration with Sedna Africa and Nokia, the new network aims to simplify data access across terminals, improve coordination among stakeholders, and enable real-time tracking of port operations.

The system will securely connect all Cornelder staff, vehicles, and equipment working across the port.

Although CDN hasn’t shared full technical details, industry experts see this as a smart move to meet the growing demand for secure, reliable digital communication in high-volume maritime settings.

This development also reflects a strategic shift in CDN’s digital approach, in line with regional efforts to deploy tech solutions that address challenges like cargo tracking, cybersecurity, and port congestion.

The Port of Beira remains a vital trade route, especially for landlocked SADC countries such as Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Zambia.

With this private network, shippers and clearing agents are expected to benefit from faster communication, smoother digital documentation, and better access to scheduling systems.
