TotalEnergies plans to restart development of its $20 billion Mozambique LNG project this summer, according to CEO Patrick Pouyanné, who spoke at the Japan Energy Summit in Tokyo.

The project has been on hold since 2021 due to security concerns following insurgent attacks. It involves the development of the Golfinho and Atum gas fields in Offshore Area 1 and the construction of a two-train liquefaction facility with a planned capacity of 13.12 million metric tons per year.

TotalEnergies leads the project with a 26.5% stake, joined by Japan’s Mitsui & Co (20%), Mozambique’s state energy firm ENH (15%), and a consortium of Indian state companies and Thailand’s PTTEP holding the remainder.
