The Port of Douala, Cameroon’s busiest maritime gateway and a key link to Central Africa, will undergo an upgrade.

AD Ports Group has partnered with Africa Ports Development under a 30-year concession to design, build, and operate a new dry bulk terminal. The project will strengthen regional trade and support Cameroon’s economy.

Douala handles about 80 per cent of Cameroon’s bulk cargo and 85 per cent of its total trade volumes. It also serves as the main access point to global markets for landlocked countries such as Chad and the Central African Republic.

Developers plan to build the terminal between 2026 and 2028. The project will include two new berths and 450 metres of quay wall, with an annual capacity of up to 4 million tonnes, covering cargo such as clinker, gypsum, fertiliser, and grain.

Under the agreed structure, AD Ports Group and two UAE investors will own 60 per cent of the operating company, while Africa Ports Development will hold 40 per cent. This arrangement gives AD Ports Group an effective 51 per cent economic interest, with its share of the first phase investment estimated at AED 320 million or €73.4 million.

Through this partnership, AD Ports Group will bring its international experience while Africa Ports Development contributes regional expertise, supporting Cameroon’s efforts to upgrade and expand the Port of Douala.
