DEME has signed a dredging contract with Tunisia’s Office de la Marine Marchande et des Ports (OMMP) to improve access, navigation safety, and compliance with international standards at key ports across the country. The project covers the ports of Sousse, Menzel-Bourguiba/Bizerte, and Radès/La Goulette, requiring coordinated operations across multiple locations and careful management of limited storage space on site.

As part of the first phase, DEME will build containment dikes in the ports of Menzel-Bourguiba and Sousse. Since the two ports are located more than 200 kilometres apart, the company will rely on detailed planning and efficient logistics to deliver the works effectively.

During the second phase, DEME will carry out dredging operations at all three locations using a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD). The company will manage the dredged material differently at each site based on local requirements. In Sousse and Menzel-Bourguiba, the material will be reused for land reclamation. In the Bizerte area, part of the material will support reclamation works in Menzel-Bourguiba, while the remainder will be placed offshore. At Radès and La Goulette, DEME will pump all dredged material to a designated onshore disposal area.

The project further expands DEME’s activities in North Africa and highlights the company’s experience in delivering dredging and marine infrastructure works across multiple locations and operating environments. DEME’s share of the contract is valued at up to €50 million.
