The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Communication Routes and Disenclavement, Jean-Pierre Bemba, inspected the new Kalemie Industrial Port in MTOA, Tanganyika Province.
Bemba, accompanied by Tanganyika Deputy Governor Isidore Kabwe Longo and several provincial ministers, toured the construction site to review the progress of the works.
After the inspection, Bemba said he was satisfied with the progress so far. He, however, called on the project team to maintain the current pace of construction and meet the agreed schedule.
The project covers dredging, berth construction, warehouses, administrative buildings and other logistics facilities needed to operate the port.
The Congolese State is developing the industrial port through a public-private partnership with a consortium made up of Jintai Mining PTE Ltd and Tembo Majengo Company SARL. Golden Lake Logistics SARL is leading the project.
The new port is expected to support economic and logistics activities in Tanganyika Province. It also aligns with President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo’s focus on improving transport infrastructure, connecting provinces and supporting economic activity across the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
