The Ghana Navy and the European Union (EU) support the West Africa Integrated Maritime Security (SWAIMS) project and have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening maritime security cooperation. They reaffirmed this commitment during a meeting between SWAIMS Project General Coordinator Commodore Antonio Rodrigues and Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, at the Naval Headquarters.
The EU-supported SWAIMS project works to improve maritime safety, tackle piracy and illegal fishing, and strengthen cooperation among West African coastal states through training and capacity-building programmes.
Commodore Antonio Rodrigues praised the Ghana Navy for its professionalism, expertise, and commitment to military training. He described the partnership between the Ghana Navy and the EU as an important collaboration that supports maritime security and contributes to stability in the Gulf of Guinea.
Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing thanked the EU for its continued support and acknowledged the strong bilateral relationship between Ghana and Portugal. He said the training and resources provided through the partnership would strengthen the Ghana Navy’s operational capacity and improve its ability to protect Ghana’s maritime domain.
