A high-level delegation led by the Commissioner of the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr met with Egypt’s ambassador to Liberia, Ahmed Abdelazeem Farghaly, to discuss ways to strengthen maritime cooperation.

The meeting was held at the Egyptian Embassy near Monrovia, where both sides focused on creating a clear framework for collaboration. They looked at how Egypt’s maritime experience and Liberia’s position as the world’s leading flag state by deadweight tonnage could support this effort.

Ambassador Farghaly highlighted the role both countries play in global trade. He encouraged closer cooperation in maritime governance, security, and technical development and welcomed the Liberian delegation.

Commissioner Lighe said LiMA is ready to partner with Egypt, describing it as a maritime giant. He noted that Liberia aims to benefit from Egypt’s infrastructure and training institutions to strengthen its operations.

Both sides identified key areas for cooperation, including a possible partnership connected to the Suez Canal, increased bilateral engagement, and support in technical areas and capacity building.

The proposed agreement is also expected to cover port services, economic zones, and the safety and security of vessels.

The discussions show Liberia’s continued effort to strengthen its maritime sector through strategic international partnerships, especially with countries that manage major global shipping routes.
