A delegation of United States officials led by Major General Miguel Aguilar of the New Mexico National Guard met Mauritian officials in Port Louis to strengthen cooperation in maritime security and border protection.

The visit supported the signing of the State Partnership Program between the Mauritius Police Force and the New Mexico National Guard. The partnership will support long-term cooperation through training, operational exchanges and technical support focused on maritime security priorities.

Under the programme, both sides will work to strengthen the operational capacity of the Mauritius Police Force through leadership training, professional development and expert exchanges linked to maritime operations and coastal security.

Mauritius and the United States will also expand cooperation in maritime and border security by improving surveillance, interdiction and enforcement capabilities across Mauritius’ vast Exclusive Economic Zone.

The programme will further support operational planning and crisis response through joint exercises, practical training and the sharing of maritime security best practices.
