MSC Group has entered a 45-year agreement with Nigerdock to build a modern container terminal at Snake Island Port in Lagos and has also signed an EPC contract with ITB Nigeria Ltd and DEME Group to carry out the project. The development is part of the Group’s broader investment in Nigeria’s infrastructure and logistics sector, which exceeds 1 billion dollars.
The terminal will feature a 910-metre quay fitted with ship-to-shore and mobile harbour cranes to handle both large ocean vessels and barges. The plan includes an initial dredging depth of 16.5 metres to match the current channel, along with a 30-hectare yard that can be expanded and is designed for hybrid rubber-tyred gantry operations.
The design also allows for future deepening to 18 metres, making room for larger vessels as traffic grows. This reflects MSC Group’s view of Nigeria as a key player in regional trade and an emerging shipping hub.
Diego Aponte said this milestone shows the group’s continued commitment to serving customers in Nigeria and across Africa. He added that the new terminal will improve operations, create opportunities, support job growth, and strengthen economic activity around the port.
