The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to strengthening maritime integration, cooperation, and capacity development across Africa.

Dr Mobereola made the remarks while hosting the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Liberia in Lagos, Mr. Dapo Akinosun, SAN, at NIMASA’s headquarters in Lagos.

He said the meeting reflected the strong and long-standing relationship between Nigeria and Liberia, particularly in the maritime sector.

Dr. Mobereola noted that closer cooperation among African countries is essential for developing the continent’s maritime sector, supporting the Blue Economy, and encouraging sustainable economic growth.

Speaking on the importance of regional cooperation, he said African nations need to strengthen maritime partnerships. He noted that collaboration between Nigeria and Liberia can help build capacity, deepen regional ties, and create opportunities for young Africans in the global maritime industry.

He added that African countries should work together to develop maritime skills across the continent. According to him, sea-time training and practical experience will help Nigerian and African youths compete more effectively in the international maritime sector.

Dr Mobereola also thanked the Liberian Government for supporting Nigeria’s successful bid for a Category C seat at the IMO. He noted that both countries have maintained productive maritime relations over the years.

Earlier, the Honorary Consul of Liberia in Lagos, Mr. Dapo Akinosun, SAN, said the visit aimed to strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and Liberia and encourage closer maritime cooperation between the two countries.

He described the maritime sector as an important driver of economic growth, regional integration, and Blue Economy development. He also commended NIMASA’s management for its efforts to support sustainable growth and attract investment into Nigeria’s maritime industry.

Akinosun said Nigeria has shown a strong commitment to maritime partnership and regional development. He added that Liberia looks forward to expanding cooperation with NIMASA in maritime administration, safety, capacity development, and trade promotion to support the growth of Africa’s Blue Economy.
