The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has opened the NIMASA Museum at the Nigerian Maritime Resource Development Centre (NMRDC) in Kirikiri, Lagos. The museum marks an important step in preserving and promoting Nigeria’s maritime history and heritage.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, NIMASA Director General Dr. Dayo Mobereola, represented by the Agency’s Director of Planning, Research and Data Management Services, Mrs. Aisha Jidda, officially opened the museum to the public. He described it as a home for Nigeria’s maritime history and a place that will preserve the country’s maritime heritage for future generations.

He said the museum will serve as a centre for education and research, featuring historical artefacts, archival records, maritime innovations and the development of Nigeria’s maritime industry over the years. He added that the museum reflects NIMASA’s commitment to increasing maritime awareness, supporting research, inspiring future maritime professionals and protecting the legacy of the country’s maritime sector.

Dr. Mobereola encouraged students, researchers, maritime stakeholders and the general public to visit the museum and learn more about Nigeria’s maritime journey, its contribution to national development and its growing role in the Marine and Blue Economy.
