The Bargny-Sendou Mineral and Bulk Port is nearing completion, with Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko providing an update on its progress under the leadership of President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.

He described the port, developed by Senegal Minergy Port, as a key national project designed to handle imports and exports of mining, petroleum, and grain products while easing long-term congestion at the Port of Dakar.

Construction has reached nearly 90 per cent completion. However, the port cannot begin operations until the issue of potable water supply is resolved.

To address this, the Prime Minister directed the Minister of Infrastructure to work with the Ministers of Finance and Water Resources to secure a firm commitment from Senegal Minergy Port to implement a storage system as a temporary solution and to closely monitor its execution.

He also instructed the minister of finance and budget to include funding in the revised 2026 finance law for a permanent potable water solution, with an allocation of 8 billion CFA francs, based on technical recommendations from SONES.
