An IMO-led needs assessment mission in Tanzania reviewed the current state of the country’s ports and began work toward setting up a Maritime Single Window system at the Port of Dar es Salaam.

The Maritime Single Window is a single digital platform that brings together all stakeholders and agencies involved in ship arrivals, stays, and departures.

The system puts all information exchange in one place and is expected to cut down the time and cost linked to port procedures.

Since 1 January 2024, IMO has required all Member States to introduce Maritime Single Window systems in their ports to improve global shipping operations.

IMO consultants carried out the assessment alongside the Ministry of Transport of Tanzania, the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation, other ministries, and public institutions.

The team also worked with the Tanzania Revenue Authority, Port Health Service, Border Police, Immigration Service, and private sector players such as shipping lines, agents, and terminal operators.

The mission ended with a meeting with TASAC to review and confirm the findings.
