Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has released a Request for Proposals (RFP), inviting qualified investors to develop two key logistics sites at Ambrose Park in the Port of Durban. The initiative is intended to increase port capacity, improve operational performance and support long-term economic growth.
The RFP covers designated portions of King’s Royal Flats No. 16576, known as Sites 1 and 4. TNPA plans to lease the sites for up to 25 years for the design, construction and operation of commercial logistics facilities. Site 1 covers about 70,478 square metres, while Site 4 extends across more than 101,065 square metres. Located in the Bayhead precinct of the Port of Durban, both sites are well placed to support container handling and other port-related logistics activities because of their close connection to major port infrastructure and transport corridors.
The planned developments will support a wide range of port-related logistics services, including cargo handling, warehousing, storage and distribution. The project will also create new commercial opportunities within the port precinct.
Durban Port Manager Mpumi Dweba-Kwetana said, “These sites represent one of the port’s key logistics development opportunities. Through this development, TNPA aims to encourage new commercial activity and strengthen the port’s role as a leading hub for integrated logistics and value added services. The RFP supports TNPA’s wider strategic objectives under the Transnet Reinvent for Growth strategy, which focuses on improving asset utilisation, attracting long-term private sector investment and driving economic growth.”
TNPA expects proposals to reflect its modernisation goals by incorporating environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, strong security measures, and automation and digital technologies that will contribute to a more efficient and future-ready port system.
