Mauritius and Australia will strengthen their cooperation on search and rescue operations through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the coordination of Search and Rescue (SAR) services.

Representatives from Mauritius’ Department of Civil Aviation, Shipping Division and National Coast Guard will sign the agreement with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

The agencies oversee aeronautical and maritime search and rescue operations in both countries. Under the MoU, Mauritius and Australia will work together by sharing information on actual or potential distress situations, supporting SAR missions and making facilities available within SAR regions.

The agreement will also provide for the exchange of information on SAR resources and capabilities, regular communication checks and periodic joint search and rescue exercises.
